Puttering Along
March 18, 2007
So we've picked out the reception foods, the cake maker, the photo taker, the music maker, picked out the readings, picked the flower mixer, and some other things. You could make this a full time job if you wanted to.
We're deciding on what hotel folks should stay at, and I want to set up a discount through AirTran for anyone that wants to fly into Atlanta. The hotel is a little tricky cause there are so many choices. You can spend as little to as much as you want, but I want the place to not be skanky, as close to the church as possible, and inexpensive. A pool is important too, cause heck, it's going to be August. I was also looking into a shuttle between the hotel and the church so people can have fun and not have to worry about driving home.
I've gotta pick out what the wedding party is going to wear. What a pain! Wear clothes, you guys. I don't think they'll let you into the church nekkid. :) At least there are a lot of places to shop in Atlanta for that kind of stuff. Seafoam green, ladies!!
In early Feburary we did our Pre-Cana class that the Catholic Church requires before marrige. It was kind of lame and boring, but i spose they're at least trying to help folks learn how to get along. They bring up topics like friends outside the marriage, money, working, and kids. It gets you to think a little bit.
A few weeks ago we met with the deacon to go over our compatibility test the church gave us. I think we were there for 3 hours, but we had a good chat. The final outcome, we're compatable! Yay!

Flowers and pictures and Hotels, OH MY!
January 18, 2007
So we went to a wedding show in Atlanta, and that really kicked off my planning.
I had ZERO idea where to start to find a photographer and florist and a cake maker, but we got some great leads and have made some real progress to finding the right people for the jobs. Thats a real load off our (and Katie's Mom's) minds. The kicker is that you can really spend a lot on this wedding stuff! The good thing is that it is going to be a lot if fun, and we are going to enjoy getting all of our family and friends together in our home town.
Speaking of getting everyone into town, we are going to have an official hotel soon where you guys can make reservations. Right now it is looking to be in the $70 a night range. There are other hotels in the area that are cheaper, but some of them are pretty shady. Only the best for our friends! Besides, you can spend a whole lot more than that in the nice hotels. The sky is the limit!

Official Date!!
December 30, 2006
So we met the priest and he was cool. A week after we met, the church office called me and told me that the 28th was already taken and we were going to have to reschedule. AGH! Cancel your plans, rebook your schedules!
The NEW OFFICIAL AND FINAL WEDDING DATE IS NOW
AUGUST 4, 2007
Got that? Luckily I've been lazy and haven't scheduled anything yet, but I'm going to have to get on the ball now. Christmas is over and I finally got all my cards out, so there shouldn't be anymore distractions... Other than that job thing I have going on. There is a lot to do, so I better get crackin, eh?

Meet the Priest
December 4, 2006
It took a month of making phone calls, but we finally got an appointment with a priest at St. Joseph's to plan whatever it is we need to plan so that we can get married. I was starting to feel like the chick from Sex in the City when she wanted to become a Jew. They were avoiding her on purpose to make it hard for her so she had to prove that she really wanted to be Jewish. Agh! I really want to get married! Please, return my phone calls! I don't have the time to start stalking priests! But it turns out that two out of the three priests from the church were out of town, and I'm sure the remaining priest was swamped. I would have felt a lot better if someone had just let me know, but maybe there really is an initiation to weed out the weak here. ;)
So this weekend we're meeting with a priest, and I don't know what we're going to be talking about, but I expect that he's going to meet us and tell us what kind of stuff we have to do to get married in the Catholic church. We've been armed by our Moms with baptism and confirmation certificates along with first communion pictures to prove our Catholic-ism. I don't think I've ever had a face to face conversation with a priest, so it's going to be interesting. Should be pretty cool though.

The Church
October 17, 2006
We think we have a church picked out. As catholic churches go, we picked the one in our area with the worst webpage. We figured that meant that they had their priorities right. The place to be is St. Joseph's Catholic in Marietta. We also have an unoffical date: July 28, 2007. That's pretty late in the spring; in fact it appears that it is in the middle of the summer. Bring your shorty shorts, it's going to be hot in Hot-lanta that weekend!
Oh, and it's awesome that folks have been signing the guestbook!
