About Atlanta

Kate and Chuck Tie the Knot Guest Book About Atlanta Updates

Things to do in Atlanta

The following is a list of things to do in Atlanta. This is based in the summer when we figure folks will be visiting us.

The picture to the right is a rough sketch of what the major highways in Atlanta look like. They are: 75, 85, 20, and 285. Where 75 and 85 meet in the middle is known as the connector. You will get stuck in traffic. Sorry.

In reference to the colored dots on the map: Green is Marietta where Kate and Chuck live and where the wedding will be. Blue is Georgia Tech. Purple is Six Flags over Georgia. Red is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, aka, ATL. If you fly in, you will see the largest air traffic control tower in the western hemisphere. You will also see one of the 2 busiest airports in the country. Yay!!

Area Highlights

The Georgia Aquarium. Downtown Atlanta. It's one of the biggest, very new, and very neat. It is a very popular attraction in the ATL.  Make SURE you make a reservation in advance!!
Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. Next to Turner field is the site of Fulton County Stadium, which was demolished after the 1996 Olympics. During the Olympics, Turner field was the home of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as track and field. It was converted to a baseball stadium when the Olympics were finished.
Georgia Tech! Kate and Chuck both did time here. The outdoor aquatic center that was built for the 96 Olympics is now enclosed in the Tech athletic complex. Many of the dorms on campus were built for olympic housing. The football stadium (home of the Jackets!) was used for Olympic soccer. The Alexander Memorial Coliseeum was used for something or other, and us currently where basketball games are played.
Zoo Atlanta is a small Zoo that is mostly cool for kids.  It can be tricky to find, so make sure you know where you are going :)
Stone Mountain is a huge granite mountain that  has a massive civil war memorial carved in its main face.  In the summer they have firework and laser shows .  Check their chedule for exact 'whens and wheres'.
Kennesaw Mountain is a Civil War battlefield very close to where Chuck and Kate live.  It is mostly history displays and a hike to the top., among other outdoor/woodsy areas to explore.
